In view of pandemic of coronavirus, the operation and public services of the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department (“IRD”) is greatly affected. To cope with the development of the pandemic, the IRD has made changes to the timetable of 2019/20 tax filings for taxpayers with appointed tax representatives as follows:

  1. Bulk issue of profits tax returns will be on 4 and 5 May 2020. Depending on a company’s accounting year end date, the filing deadline will be different as follows:
    1 April 2019 – 30 November 2019   30 June 2020
    1 December 2019 – 31 December 2019   17 August 2020
    1 January 2020 – 31 March 2020   16 November 2020*
    ​* There will be a further extension to 1 February 2021 if the company incurs tax loss for 2019/20
  2. Bulk issue of individual tax return will be on 1 June 2020 and the filing deadline is 3 August 2020. If the taxpayer carried on sole-proprietorship business for 2019/20, the deadline is 2 November 2020.
  3. Bulk issue of employer’s return and property tax return was on 1 April 2020 and the filing deadline is 1 May 2020.
  4. For the purpose of country-by-country reporting notification, the deadline of Hong Kong reporting entities of accounting periods ended between 31 December 2019 and 29 February 2020 is extended to 1 June 2020.
